This course studies the foundations for the cross-cultural mission and ministry of the global church. Included is a brief review of the theological foundations for the Christian Church’s outward journey via ministries that require it to overcome varieties of cultural barriers in order to help people experience the spiritual life and growth that come through relationship with God. The class also includes a survey of missiological paradigms, the challenges of contextualization, the specific challenges confronting the post-modern church, and important elements of the “emerging church” movement. The course will address these topics from global, pluralistic, and multi-denominational perspectives while attempting to enable each learner ample opportunity to explore, interpret, and apply the implications of this study to their ecclesiological heritage.
